About the event
Have you heard that a failure to negotiate the first salary offer can result in an individual leaving $500,000 behind in earnings over the course of their career? Or any of the other statistics about what impact consistent job offer negotiation can have on lifetime earnings? While money is not the most important part of career satisfaction, there is both monetary and personal value in learning how to navigate job offer evaluation and salary negotiations. And we have an opportunity to round out the work we do with graduating students by teaching them to make this a standard part of their professional journey.
The Lunch and Learn will provide some background on why I created an Offer Evaluation and Salary Negotiation appointment for students, and how I’m teaching them to successfully navigate the process now and in the future. Come to learn for your own students or yourself! (It’s never too late to learn to negotiate!)
About the Presenter
Betsy Davies (she/her) is the Associate Director of Career Development and Employer Relations for the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering. If required to categorize some of the key focus areas of Betsy’s career thus far, she’d use the following labels: relationship builder, advocacy, persuasion, and communication. Betsy maintains her license to practice law in Ohio and successfully marries her legal training with her current work with students and employers where advocacy, persuasion, and communication are vital to the work she does. One of the best parts of her work is celebrating student successes when they learn to communicate their value on paper, in interviews, and in negotiations.
Betsy is passionate about a good cup of coffee and can often be seen with one in hand at home with her family or while volunteering for as a Steering Committee Member for Leadership Lexington Youth Program, the Junior League of Lexington, the St. Michael’s School Board, or the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation’s Development Committee. She believes a well-timed Ted Lasso or Schitt’s Creek quote can add levity to most situations.
